The Moonshine Project
is a non-profit organization committed to the process of creating live experiences to engage new, diverse audiences. In the wake of Katrina, The Moonshine Project is proud to assist in the rebuilding of the gulf coast and the city of New Orleans, the birthplace of American Music. Habitat For Humanity is a non-profit organization dedicated to building decent, affordable homes in partnership with very low-income families. Following Hurricane Katrina, Habitat for Humanity has initiated the process of planning the long-term recovery of disaster-affected areas, and the building of permanent recovery homes. The Tipitina's Foundation is a non-profit organization which has, until the recent devastation of Hurricane Katrina, devoted its efforts to uplifting the New Orleans music community. In the wake of the devastation, The Tipitina's Fundation is committed to saving the culture of New Orleans, by locating New Orleans artists and their families, finding housing for those who need it, and getting instruments into the hands of musicians who've lost theirs. Tipitina's began as a neighborhood juke joint, and was established in 1977 by a group of young music fans to provide a place for Professor Longhair to perform in his final years. The venue, named for one of Longhair's most enigmatic recordings "Tipitina" has survived in an ever-changing musical climate and has grown from a small, neighborhood bar into an international music icon. Many New Orleans brass bands are without any instruments. Donations of brass band instruments are urgently needed. These include: trumpets; trombones; saxophones; sousaphones/tubas; snare drums w/marching straps & sticks; bass drums w/marching straps & mallets; and cymbals. |
